Kevin's 8th Grade Graduation!

Hard to believe he's graduating from 8th grade!

The medal was for being a member of National Junior Honor Society.
The certificate was for honor roll. He was so proud and worked really hard for those.

Grandpa and Grandma Sykes are quite proud!

Cousin Sam and Aunt Karin joined the celebration.

Jeff is the high school youth pastor who Kev will start with this summer,

Twenty Year Anniversary!!

Our twentieth anniversary was something we had been talking about all through our marriage. We knew it would be one of the most meaningful milestones we'd reach in our life together. Both sets of our parents divorced during their 20th year, and so for us this would be an anniversary to cherish. We decided to include the boys in the first part of our celebration. Bobby took the day off and we headed to Balboa Island for the day.

Following our day in Balboa, we headed over to the Charthouse Restaurant in Newport Beach where we had eaten the night we got engaged. The four of us had a wonderful dinner, and then I gave Bobby a photo book I had made of our journey together. Later, the waiter came out with "dessert" on a platter. It turned out that Bobby had arranged to have a platter brought out with a small ring box instead of the dessert. Inside was a beautiful anniversary ring, but more than that was a special moment that the boys were able to witness.

It was fun to be a family on our anniversary, but we had planned a special getaway too. And so we arranged for Granny to stay at our house with the boys while we went to Coronado Island for five days. It was so special to get to stay at Hotel Del Coronado in an oceanfront suite... worth waiting 20 years for! We roasted marshmellows on the beach, listened to bands on the pier, took long walks, ate amazing food, and reflected on 20 precious years together. I can't imagine being with anyone else.
